It has everything you could hope for: balmy weather most of the year, beaches and water sports, museums and historic sites, good restaurants and a wide variety of accommodations, from resort hotels and quaint bed-and-breakfasts to vacation homes. It was central enough to allow us to walk or bike to most places we wanted to go.
